Sure, there are great research sites, business sites, and places to get work done... but the reason we all hook up to the web is for the fun sites. Here are a few places I've found in my travels.
WMBR Home Page- WMBR is the MIT campus radio station, broadcasting to the Cambridge/Boston metro area on
88.1 FM. During my younger days at MIT, I did some radio shows, a bunch of production bits, and sold our old call letters
(WTBS) to some guy in Atlanta. I worked
with a lot of cool folks during my college days, including
Tony V.
Check out the MIT Hack Gallery, where past hacks are immortalized (the police car on the dome is classic!).
TiVo Hacking - My current (2005)
hobby is hacking our Tivo unit. I've added a bigger hard drive and
installed several software packages so I'm able to access the Tivo via a web
browser anywhere on the Internet.
Slashdot - The best site on the web for news
and commentary about all things geek (yes I'm a
geek).
The Onion - A very funny news
parody site. I've also been spending a lot of time at
fark.com lately.
Bruce Springsteen
- He's the boss....got some cool photos I took back in 1978
here. Also, check out Richard
Shindell, an incredible singer/songwriter.
Sourceforge.net - Cool software development
site with lots of open source programs. Current favorites of mine are
PHP-GEDView which I use to run the
Fix family genealogy site and
Asterisk @ Home which I'm
experimenting with to use in my hardware store.
Now that you've had your fun, make sure you follow some of these links and really accomplish something. Just a reminder, these links are my personal links and not connected to my hardware store business.
Library of Congress - Really cool site.... almost belongs in the fun section as well. You can search all sorts of government
databases, plus look up any House or Senate bill by number or text contained within the bill. Jump over to the site, and look
for bills containing the word "indecent"..... scary.
First Amendment
Examples - A nice page containing examples of First Amendment situations.
Znet
Magazine - Great alternative to CNN and FoxNews - news and commentary.
Also check out Michael Moore's site, Daily Kos
and Raw Story for news with a liberal
slant.
Rock and Rap Confidential - Now Rock and Rap Confidential has a web site! One of the best sources for the latest on all
aspects of popular music, especially censorship issues. Opinionated, but always fun to read...
dKospedia - A political encyclopedia
with a liberal bias, similar in style to
Wikipedia.
What do you think of the page so far? Drop me a note while you're here, and let me know what you think! Thanks for visiting!

When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible
gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”
